ABOUT: your host C S Wurzberger, The Green Up Girl®

This is the first ever episode of Conservation Celebrations – so welcome. Before you start listening to the interviews, I wanted to first share my vision for this podcast series, why I created it, tell you a little about myself and share the shows format .

Ever since I was a little a girl I’ve know my mission is to inspire people to care for the earth and its animals. I am so honored and proud to bring you a podcast series that spotlights remarkable people and conservation projects involved in saving endangered animals and their natural habitat. The show unveils the impact of each project, shares the details, and celebrates their outcomes.

In my professional life, as a green movement marketer and podcast producer, promoter and host I spend countless house on planes, trains and autos. I get board listening to the radio and all its commercials, I love NPR, but I have to listen to their topics on their schedule. Listening to music is great, but some days my mind and soul need to be more engaged.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a person who loves learning and being inspired and maybe you do too. Its fun to know the intimate details about the people, businesses, organizations, and communities involved in making this a better world. I couldn’t find these discussions anywhere, so this podcast was born.

So now a little more about myself

My first few years of my life were spent living in Santiago, Chile while my dad was serving in the army. Then after 5 years, our family moved to Wilmington, Vermont and my fondest moments entailed riding my horse through the mountains exploring nature and especially in the Fall stopping at each apple trees to sample the many treats along our path.

In my mid-twenty’s then there was a life changing event  that lead me to move my daughter, our 4 horses, 2 Llamas, 1 dog, 2 bunnies, and 2 cats to Maine to work as the director of a 300 animals, 150 acre USDA licensed petting zoo. It was the dream job of a lifetime. I ran the outreach programs teaching kids and families about animals and protecting the environment. I was also blessed to be in charge of bottle raising many critters like Walter the Wallaby, Ted the cheviot lamb, Andy the Audad, Parachute the mouse, spencer the red squirrel, Melissa the Mulefoot hog,  and the list goes on and on.

In fact one day my daughter’s teacher called from school to ask if I was having problems with her telling lies at home, I said no why. He told me that she was telling her classmates that she gave Wesley the woodchuck his bottle while I was busy feed Falina the Fallow deer. I just laughed and said no she is not lying,  feeding the babies was a normally start to our day.Unfortunately many years later, the owner of the petting zoo retired and closed the facility. It was at the same time, my daughter graduated from high school and I needed to set out on a new career path. I went back to school to expand my internet marketing skills and sustainability knowledge. Then I moved to Boston to build my company.

After a few years in the city I found the green mountains of Vermont were calling me back and with the expansion of technology I realized I could work and service my green clients from any where. So I packed up and headed home to Vermont.

It’s been clear since I was a little girl My life’s mission is “to inspire people to care for the earth and it’s animals” .

My compassion for animals blossomed in the 4th grade when I was asked to select an animal from the encyclopedia and write a paper for my English class.

As I was flipping through the pages and pictures of the book I came across the Dodo bird, a funny looking creature that caught my attention.

As I read on, I discovered that the Dodo bird went extinct in 1681 because of over-hunting and the introduction of animals that preyed on its young.

Boy, was I an upset little girl! I thought, ‘This bird could have been saved if humans had cared a little more.”

I remember coming home from school to tell my parents about the tragic news, yet they didn’t seem to understand why I was so upset. I stomped my feet and shouted, ‘But we need to care, this bird will never be seen on the earth again.’

It was hard for me to understand why no one in my life seemed to understand my passion for animals, and I didn’t have the resources to speak up and make a difference.

Well, now I’m older and thanks to the Internet I have the resources to help make a difference. I spend my time passionately speaking up for animals and supporting the organizations that are making a difference in the animal world. I don’t want to see any more animals needlessly going extinct.

Now, this brings us to present day and I’m in the process of kicking off the biggest dream of my life. To travel the U.S. in my 24’ mobile podcasting & conservation studio producing these podcasts, hosting Conservation Conversations and bringing people together to enjoy caring for the earth and its animals.

No matter how busy and hectic your everyday life, on my other podcast, The Green Up Girl®, I share quick, easy ways you can reduce waste, save money, and lower your impact on the earth and its animals.

In my free time, I love hiking, biking, kayaking, horseback riding, skiing and any activity that involves being with nature. I own 14 acres and I’m building my dream off the grid home on Cow Path 40 in Vermont. (Yes that is truly the name of the road, is this the best address for The Green Up Girl® to call home.)
